Steady in the Storm: The Anchor Is You

Friday, December 4 | 9:00 - 10:30 AM

The children and families this field serves don't need perfect leaders — they need steady ones. But steadiness is hard to come by when caseloads keep climbing, teams are stretched thin, and the weight of other people's crises comes home with you. This highly interactive session is for everyone in the room, regardless of title. Drawing on Valorie Burton's resilience framework, you'll learn practical ways to recover from setbacks, stay grounded under sustained pressure, and lead from a place of strength instead of depletion. You'll also explore why resilience is contagious, and how your steadiness shapes the colleagues and clients around you. Because in behavioral health, the anchor isn't a policy or a program. It's you.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the personal purpose that drew you to this work and one practical way to return to it in high-pressure moments.

  2. Apply Valorie Burton's resilience framework (Adaptive Skills, Protective Resources, and Preventative Measures) to assess where you're strong and choose one area to strengthen.

  3. Describe how your response to pressure shapes the colleagues and clients around you, and commit to one practice for modeling steadiness on your team.

  4. Use a simple coaching framework and shared language to keep building resilience in yourself and others after the session.
