WORKSHOP

Planning for a Graceful, Courageous, and Successful Departure

Thursday, December 5 | 1:45 PM - 3:00 PM

Through the pandemic years, executives held off on leaving their leadership roles. After years of care, skilled leadership, and devotion to the mission, it was difficult for senior leaders, especially executives, to depart. That has changed. We are experiencing a significant increase in departures; executives are now taking stock of the organization’s financial health and are making the move. Succession planning at all senior levels is critical and requires courage, grace, and thoughtfulness.

This workshop is an invaluable opportunity to learn about effective practices to navigate an executive’s leadership departure, to understand the role of the board, and to share with others the joys and anxieties of leaving or in guiding the Board process well. I will use tools to assess organizational vulnerabilities and the needed actions. We will discuss issues such as timing, good communication practices, transition roles and responsibilities, use of interims, and internal candidate grooming. A resource list will be included.
