What's Underneath the Behavior? Utilizing Chaddock's Innovative In-Home Intensive and Family Coaching Programs to Reduce Challenging Behaviors as a Result of Trauma & Attachment Issues

Parenting is hard! Parenting children who have attachment issues and/or have experienced trauma is even harder. Chaddock's innovative In-Home Intensive and Family Coaching programs utilizes the most recent trauma-informed research to address the behavioral health needs of children from a family system approach. These programs provide strategies to caregivers to implement in the home to reduce the behaviors and increase the potential for long-term behavioral stability. These programs use components of Chaddock's nationally recognized Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program (DTAP) and parents can apply these in their daily interactions to reduce behavioral challenges.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will gain knowledge on how Chaddock's In-Home Intensive and Family Coaching services reduce behavioral challenges within the family system.
- Attendees will identify strategies to help families caring for children who may have attachment issues or experienced traumatic events.
- Attendees will learn components of Chaddock's Developmental Trauma and Attachment Program model and how to apply to in home and family coaching based services.
About the Presenters
Marcia Ryan, MS
Marcia Ryan is the associate director of Client Services at Chaddock, in Quincy, IL. She received her bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement from Western Illinois University in 1983 then got her masters in counseling from Capella University in 2013. She has worked at Chaddock for over 35 years which offers an array of services includes outpatient, foster and adoption services and a residential treatment facility for clients with emotional and behavioral disorders. She was a key developer of a specialized program for children and adolescence with trauma and attachment disorders which is recognized nation-wide for the specialization of working with this population. Marcia continues to train employees about trauma and attachment. She also has also been a presenter as well as co-leader in many workshops and conferences as well as trained other residential facilities in various states. She was a key leader in developing Chaddock’s Developmental Trauma and Attachment residential program (DTAP) as well as helped develop Chaddock’s Intensive In Home Program and Chaddock’s parent coaching program which are offered to families nation-wide. Marcia has co-authored a chapter in Chaddock’s book Attachment Theory in Action: Building Connections Between Children and Parents, was a major contributor to the book Raising the Challenging Child, and co-authored several published articles.

Kim Wheelock, LCSW
Kim Wheelock has 27 years of experience working with children and families in behavioral health and child welfare. Kim earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice through Quincy University and a Master's Degree in Social Work through the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Kim has served two terms on the Illinois Adoption Advisory Counsel, was a trainer for Foster PRIDE and has extensive work in post adoption services. Kim has received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Theraplay, Dyadic Development Psychotherapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trust Based Relational Intervention. In addition to being Chaddock's Clinical Supervisor. Kim developed and Implemented Chaddock's Family Coaching Program within the foster care program.
